Hello, I'm trying to restore one of our sql2k database and in Enterprise
Manager console it is greyed out and says (Loading). Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.Did you refresh after the RESTORE operation? If not, do refresh.
Also, did you do the RESTORE using NORECOVERY? If not, do below:
RESTORE DATABASE dbname WITH RECOVERY

Restore database from SQL 2000 to 2005 gives me a permission error
I am creating a backup of a database using Enterprise Manager. This creates
a
file (a rather large file). I transfer this file to a machine where SQL 2005
is installed. I choose to restore the database. I type in the destaination
database name and browse to find the "device"/file where my backup resides.
I
change the path for the transaction logs and data file because the paths on
the backup copy do not match the path to where SQL 2005 has the data stored.
Besides the backup copy references a drive letter that does not exist on the
SQL2005 machine. Anyway once all of that is done I click on OK then I get an
error indicating access deniied. No file name or path is given the error jus
t
indicates a permission problem. I did not have this problem with backup and
restore from SQL 2000 to another SQL 2000 machine. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Kevin BurtonDoes your SQL Server service account has permissions to write to that
location?
For example, if you are restoring to K:\Data then make sure the service
account has write permissions on the K: drive.

Restore database creates <null>
Hi - I am using sql 2000 - and Enterprise Manager.
When restoring a backup, some ntext (4000) fields are being left as
<null> although there is clearly some text in the original database
fields.
I've been supplied a .bak file of a live database, in order to use it
locally to do some reporting.
I used Enterprise Manager/All Tasks/Restore Database...
1) Created a database
2) Ent-Mgr/Right click over new database (1), Restore Database/General
Tab - restore as database set to my new database (1)
3) Clicked From Device, then Select Devices
4) Clicked Add, then in the Filename field, navigated to the .bak file
on my drive
5) Only restore from media... is unchecked - clicked ok
6) On the Restore Database/Options Tab, Force restore over existing
database is checked, Leave database operational is selected
7) clicked ok, and the database was restored to my new database (1)
When I checked the field, which should contain some text, some records
do, and some just contain <Null> - I have no access to the live server.
Is it likely this is being caused by some other flag I have not
checked/unchecked in Enterprise Manager, or is there something else
anyone can suggest?
Thanks for your help,
Mark

Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!A restored database is exactly like the original. The only differences are
(optionally) the database and file names.
If the restored data is not as expected, check to see if the backup file
contains multiple backup sets. You can do this by clicking the 'View
Contents' button on the EM restore dialog. Unless specified otherwise, only
the first (oldest) backup is restored. There is no need to create the
database beforehand because RESTORE will create the database during the
restore process.

How can you say for certain that the data is not NULL in the source if you
have no access to the live server?
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help,
Mark

A restored database is exactly like the original.

|||Hi Dan - thanks for the pointers - I'll try those when I get back on
Monday.
I know the live server has data, as I can query specific tables and
fields through a web interface.
Cheers, Mark

|||I can't really think of anything that would cause this, assuming the backup
date is as expected. A database restore is all-or-nothing so the databases
should be in sync after the restore.
Have you tried issuing the same queries against both databases via Query
Analyzer? If this yields different results, you might try another
backup/restore.
Hope this helps.

Restore database creates <null>
Hi - I am using sql 2000 - and Enterprise Manager.
When restoring a backup, some ntext (4000) fields are being left as

Restore Database action not responding
I followed the "Restore Database to a new Server" process using Enterprise
Manager and T-SQL using the WITH MOVE option. Both processes seem to be
hanging.
In EM, the Restore Progress bar shows it is restoring but no progress is made.
In T-SQL, I just receive Executing Query Batch...
Any ideas on what is going on? What do I need to look at?
Thanks-

DebRESTORE may need to create the database before the restore actually begins
and this can take considerable time. Is this a large database?

restore database (Loading) error
I am trying to restore a database from backup (Veritas)
The backup says it is restored successfully, but ....
in enterprise manager the database reads 'Data(loading)'
I tried two different distination names
two different sources.
With the same result.
I tried EXEC sp_delete_backuphistory '07/16/04'
based on something I found on the internet.
I am using SQL2000
Does anybody have any ideas?
Perhaps the Veritas software did not run recovery as the final step? This
will leave your db marked as loading, but you can run recovery manually.

Restore database - Seems hung?
I'm restoring a complete backup of a database from Enterprise Manager. This has been running for 3 hours and shows no sign of progress. The "Restore Progress" dialog is on the screen and the progress bar hasn't showed any progress. The disk is at full capacity in performance monitor. Nothing else is using the system.
The data file is 14 GB. It seems like something is wrong. Anything I can do to check?
SQL Server 2000 SP3a Enterprise Edition
Windows 2000Paying the bill would be nice.
Check errorlog of the server. The progress may be reported there.|||Seems hung?
Well that's what they sa...ummm never mind
Forget EM
Try and do this from QA and do RESTORE FILELISTONLY and see what that says...
Also, make sure to set the database into single user mode with Rollback immediate...
I betcha you've got some blocking going on...

Restore a Group/Role?
I have a client with an eager IT manager who used Report Manager, saw the
BUILTIN\Administrators group in the roles list and decided to remove it from
the Report Server groups, or I think that is how he did it, he says he is
not sure. Sadly that was the only RS group with Content Manager and
Publisher rights, so no more report publishing/role assignment there.
I looked at the Books Online to see how I can restore/create groups/roles in
RS, but all cases say "use Report Manager and navigate ..." but obviously
that does not apply any more, because Report Manager now does not show the
Site Settings, New Role Assignment, etc.
Must they re-install?
Thanks. There is no need to reinstall. Use account that is windows admin on the box
where Report Server is installed. This account should have sufficient rights
to browse and change security. Admin on the box has these special rights on
Report Server regardless of the Report Server policies.

Hi,
You have 2 options:-
1. OSQL :- MSDE comes with command line utility OSQL. Using this you can
login to SQL Server and execute any TSQL command. For
Restore you can use RESTORE DATABASE command from OSQL.
2. Webadmin:- Web based free tool from microsoft. Download from below site:-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

|||Option 3:
make a little program, logon to master database and execute restore database
statement
RESTORE DATABASE <dbname> FROM DISK <location> WITH MOVE <file name>, TO
<file name>, RECOVERY, REPLACE
(MOVE and TO twice, for ldf and mdf (more if ndf's))
Check out BOL for exact statement

Yes, you can use OSQL.EXE and from there execute your RESTORE command. Both OSQL and RESTORE are
documented in Books Online, which you can find here:
